Our Mercer Village location is where the story of Z Beans Coffee began. Founded by former Mercer University student Shane, Z Beans was born from an idea inspired by a Mercer on Mission trip to Ecuador, where he witnessed firsthand the importance of community, connection, and creating meaningful opportunities for others. Returning home with a renewed sense of purpose, Shane set out to build something that brought people together—starting with coffee. Located in Mercer Village, this first shop became the foundation for what Z Beans would grow into: a place centered on hospitality, relationships, and serving others with intention.

The heart of our creativity.

As our original storefront, the Mercer Village shop remains the heart of innovation within Z Beans Coffee. More than just a café, it functions as a test kitchen and creative hub where ideas are explored, refined, and shared across our company. Many of the seasonal beverages and specialty drinks our customers have come to love begin here, developed through experimentation, customer feedback, and the creativity of our team. From signature flavor combinations to limited-time favorites, Mercer Village is where many of our drink specials first come to life before making their way to our other locations.

At the same time, Mercer Village continues to embody the spirit that inspired Z Beans from the very beginning. It is a gathering place for students, faculty, families, professionals, and neighbors—a space where relationships are built over familiar orders and meaningful conversations. While Z Beans has grown beyond its first storefront, Mercer Village remains a reflection of our roots: a place of creativity, community, and the belief that even small moments shared over coffee can leave a lasting impact. For many Mercer students, it becomes part of the rhythm of college life—a familiar stop between classes, a place to study, reconnect with friends, or pause during busy days. We are proud to remain deeply connected to the university community that helped shape our beginnings and continue to value the relationships built within Mercer Village. Even as new ideas and drink concepts are developed here, the heart of this location remains unchanged: creating a welcoming space where people feel known, encouraged, and at home.
